Reading Xu Zhimo’s Writing in Singapore under the Vision of Globalization

Xu Zhimo’s fiction‘Nong De Hua Bu Kai’(Singapore) was written in 1928, based on his traveling experience in Southeast Asia. It was published in the magazine“Xin Yue”, and was later compiled into a series of fictions entitled “Lun Pan”.
‘Nong De Hua Bu Kai’(Singapore) is a story of youth Lin Lian Feng’s travel in Singapore, who had been added vibrancy to his life and allured him to a world of primitive desires and fantasies.
This essay analyzes how research done on Xu Zhimo is influenced by tide of globalization, and the consequent commercialization of Xu Zhimo and his works. With the‘Nong De Hua Bu Kai’ (Singapore) as main focus, it was compared with other two fictions‘Nong De Hua Bu Kai’ (Hong Kong) and ‘Si Cheng’ (One night in Beijing) to interpret “the other” in alien cultures and how they evoke the primal emotions and desires within oneself.
Xu Zhimo made use of “Food” and “Lust” to express his sexual desire, and writing became a metaphor for his journey to redeem and sublimate his sexual instincts.
